Many factors are important in generating competitiveness, from these factors will create and maintain a superior position from competitors, which is called competitive advantage. However, a thorough understanding of the state-of-the-art of competitive advantage is still needed. Therefore, this article aims to classify, identify scientific publications and carry out a systematic analysis of the latest literature to create an extensive and detailed understanding in the field of competitive advantage. The research method was carried out by systematic mapping study (SMS) to examine scientific publications in the field of competitive advantage generated based on the focus and type of research from time to time. The results of this study provide guidance to assist researchers in planning future research through the discovery of research gaps (Gaps). This Systematic Mapping Study Procedure follows relevant empirical guidelines and maps articles in the Scopus electronic database. Based on the search results found 167 articles that match the inclusion criteria. The author classifies articles into seven categories, namely prior research trends, country of origin of publication, type of article, research approach, research methods, research focus, and research locus.
