Abstract
This study aims to anlalyze the relatinship between socio-economic factors and farm performance, as well as their contribution to meeting household expenditures among paddy farmers in Tasikmalaya Regency. The survey involved 258 randomly selected respondents from four rice-producing districts. The findings reveal that the majority of farmers operate on small plots of land, resulting in low farming efficiency and profitability due to limited economies of scale. The age structure of farmers, dominated by those over 40 years old, and the low level of education hinder the adoption of technology and innovations. The contribution of rice farming to meeting household needs remains limited, particularly for farmers with small landholdings. These findings highlight the need for policies focusing onland redistribution, improved access to technology, agricultural training, and the regeneration of younger farmers to enhance the sustainability of the agricultural sector.
Keywords: paddy farming, socio-economic factors, efficiency, profitability, sustainability.
