Abstract

Abstract

Mediated electrochemical oxidation (MEO) performance can degrade organic liquid wastes that are toxic and dangerous, especially phenol. It has many advantages compared to conventional destruction technologies, including biological treatment and adsorption with activated carbon, e.g it takes place at low temperature and ambient pressure. It also can be realized on a large scale and able to transform a compound into a safe form that does not cause new impact to the environment. MEO degrades phenolic compounds to produce CO2 and H2O. In this research, MEO is used as both tools of degradation as well as analysis by using conductometer as measurement. The method of validation was performed by determining analytical parameters that include, sensitivity, detection limit, quantitation limit, precision, accuracy and linearity range. The optimum time for the solution 0.017 mg/L is 5 minutes with an average efficiency of 29 %. The concentration of phenol which is used to make MEO–Conductometry calibration curveare 0.017 mg/; 0.034;.0.051;0.068, and 0.085 mg/L. For method validation, test method was compared with UV-Visible Spectrophotometric method. The result of the comparison of analytical parameters, there are closeness to the standard method, such as the detection limit of 0.004 mg/L to 0.003mg/L, limit of quantitation 0.013
mg/L to 0.011 mg/L, and the linearity range of detection limit up to the highest concentration. For method validation test conducted Least Square Fitting. The two methodsare similar or not differ significantly with standard method for concentration above 0.034 mg/L.
