Tren penelitian teori Social Comparison dalam ilmu komunikasi: Kajian bibliometrik Scopus

Abstract


Manusia secara alami membandingkan diri dengan orang lain dalam interaksi sosial, yang dapat menyebabkan perasaan kebanggaan, rendah diri, atau ketidakpuasan. Proses ini dijelaskan dalam teori Social Comparison yang telah banyak diteliti dalam psikologi sosial. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tren publikasi tentang teori Social Comparison dalam ilmu komunikasi menggunakan analisis bibliometrik untuk mengidentifikasi perkembangan dan pola riset terkait teori tersebut. Metode: Data diperoleh dari Scopus, dengan analisis mencakup sitasi, co-citation, kata kunci, dan pemetaan visual menggunakan VOSviewer untuk menggambarkan hubungan antara artikel dan topik yang muncul dalam publikasi. Sebanyak 1.039 artikel yang diterbitkan antara tahun 2014 hingga 2023 dianalisis, dengan fokus pada metadata seperti judul, abstrak, kata kunci, dan sitasi dari setiap artikel yang relevan dengan teori Social Comparison. Hasil dan Pembahasan: Publikasi terkait teori Social Comparison menunjukkan tren peningkatan antara 2014 dan 2023, dengan puncaknya pada 2023, mencatat 166 publikasi (16%). Amerika Serikat dan Jerman menjadi negara dengan publikasi terbanyak. Subjek utama yang dibahas adalah ilmu sosial, dengan referensi utama dari Festinger tahun 1954 yang menginspirasi 234 kutipan. Pemetaan kata kunci menunjukkan tiga cluster: Social Comparison (merah), usia dan kesehatan mental (hijau), serta perasaan (biru). Jurnal yang banyak mengutip topik ini adalah Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking dan Sex Roles. Kesimpulan: Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa teori Social Comparison semakin berkembang dalam studi komunikasi, dengan potensi untuk mengeksplorasi gap penelitian yang lebih dalam.
