Penerapan Prinsip Kesejahteraan Hewan Pada Pemeliharaan Ternak
Abstrak
Penerapan kesejahteraan hewan (Kesrawan) khususnya pada pemeliharaan ternak di Indonesia dinilai belum maksimal. Peningkatan jumlah produksi ternak serta rendahnya pemahaman kesrawan menjadi salah satu faktor penghambat utama dari implementasi kesrawan pada industri peternakan di Indonesia. Di sisi lain, pasar internasional menuntut adanya penjaminan kesrawan untuk ternak yang diperjual belikan di dalam dan ke luar negeri. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, tim riset dan pengabdian Fakultas Peternakan Universitas Padjadjaran bekerjasama dengan Yayasan Bangun Bakti Pertiwi (Bangkit Foundation) menyelenggarakan pelatihan terkait kesrawan dengan mengundang narasumber yang ahli di bidangnya. Adapun peserta yang diundang terdiri dari perwakilan dari pengusaha feedlot, asosiasi juru sembelih halal Jawa Barat, Himpunan Peternak Domba dan Kambing Indonesia (HPDKI), Koperasi Sapi Perah, serta para peneliti dan mahasiswa. Tujuan kegiatan adalah untuk menambah pengetahuan, pemahaman dan keterampilan peserta dalam pelaksanaan good farming practices dengan menerapkan konsep Animal Welfare. Metode yang digunakan berupa pelatihan dan penyuluhan secara hybrid (luring dan daring) oleh tim pengabdian selama 2 hari. Pengukuran keberhasilan kegiatan dilakukan melalui pre test dan post test. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa hampir 90% dari total peserta pelatihan mendapatkan peningkatan pengetahuan mengenai definisi kesrawan, prinsip-prinsip kesrawan, biosecurity, regulasinya serta strategi yang dapat dilakukan dalam penerapan kesrawan. Peserta memahami pentingnya lima prinsip kebebasan dari kesrawan serta penerapannya di lapangan.
