Review: Peningkatan Stabilitas Vitamin C dalam Sediaan Kosmetika

Abstrak

Vitamin C merupakan salah satu antioksidan potensial yang dapat membantu mencerahkan warna kulit dan kerap kali digunakan dalam berbagai produk perawatan kulit, dikarenakan selain memiliki bioaktivitas sebagai stimulasi produksi kolagen, berfungsi juga sebagai agen pencerah kulit, UV protector, anti-aging (penuaan dini), mengurangi kerutan, mencegah bintik hitam pada wajah. Akan tetapi, Vitamin C ini sangat sensitif dan dapat terdegradasi menjadi dehydroascorbic acid akibat reaksi fotooksidasi dan hidrolisis. Tujuan review artikel ini adalah untuk memberikan informasi mengenai metode yang dapat dilakukan untuk meningkatkan stabilitas Vitamin C dalam sediaan kosmetik. Review ini menggunakan metode penelitian komparatif dengan mengumpulkan berbagi sumber pustaka primer dari 44 jurnal penelitian dengan kriteria jurnal dari tahun 2012 hingga 2022 yang membahas tentang metode peningkatan stabilitas Vitamin C dan kriteria eksklusinya ialah jurnal yang membahas tentang stabilitas sediaan injeksi Vitamin C. Hasil review dari beberapa artikel mengindikasikan bahwa stabilitas Vitamin C dapat ditingkatkan dengan menggunakan beberapa metode yaitu mikroenkapsulasi, pengurangan suhu dan waktu pemanasan, penyimpanan pada suhu rendah, penyesuaian nilai pH, peningkatan konsentrasi gliserin, pengurangan kandungan oksigen pada air, penyesuaian konsentrasi Vitamin C, dan penggunaan turunan Vitamin C. Selain itu, peningkatan stabilitas Vitamin C dapat dilakukan dengan penambahan eksipien seperti sodium metabisulfite, trace element, antioksidan lain, dan bahan penstabil.
