Editorial Policies

Focus and Scope

Jurnal Kajian Informasi & Perpustakaan publishes articles based on research and scholarly studies in the field of Library and Information Science. The journal is published twice a year (June and December) by the editorial board of the Library and Information Science Study Program, Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, in collaboration with the Ikatan Sarjana Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi Indonesia (ISIPII).

Every submitted article will be reviewed by the journal editors and external editors and reviewers who are competent in their respective fields. The review process uses a double-blind peer review system before the article is accepted for publication. The study areas covered by this journal include librarianship, information science, and archives, including:

  • Library ManagementThe control and supervision of a library or library system, including planning, budgeting, policymaking, personnel management, public relations, and program assessment, with responsibility for results. 
  • Digital Library and Repositories. A library in which a significant proportion of the resources are available in machine-readable format, accessible by means of computers. The physical space (building, room, area) reserved for the permanent or intermediate storage of archival materials. To preserve and protect archival collections, modern repositories are equipped to meet current standards of environmental control and security. 
  • Organization of Information. Information organization establishes the conceptual framework for organizing and retrieving information, including the study of systems and their purposes and structures, formats, standards, and vocabularies.
  • Information Services. Generally information services can be divided into two categories: library public user services and library technical user services. Library public user services refer to circulation, bibliographic instructions, distance learning, government documentation, reference and special collection. Library information user services focuses on procedures and operations of maintaining, developing and supporting library collection and services behind the scene such as acquisition, cataloguing, classification, inter library loan, document delivery and serial systems.
  • Knowledge Management. Process of creating (generating, capturing), storing (preserving, organizing, integrating), sharing (communicating), applying (implementing), and reusing (transforming) organisational knowledge to enable an organisation 5 to achieve its goals and objectives.
  • Media and Information Literacy. constitutes a composite set of knowledge, skills, attitudes, competencies and practices that allow effectively access, analyze, critically evaluate, interpret, use, create and disseminate information and media products with the use of existing means and tools on a creative, legal and ethical basis
  • Information and Media Preservation. Prolonging the existence of library and archival materials by maintaining them in a condition suitable for use, either in their original format or in a form more durable, through retention under proper environmental conditions or actions taken after a book or collection has been damaged to prevent further deterioration.
  • Infometrics. The use of mathematical and statistical methods in research related to libraries, documentation, and information.
  • Information Policy. A governing principle, plan, or course of action concerning information resources and technology adopted by a company, organization, institution, or government
  • Documentation System. The process of systematically collecting, organizing, storing, retrieving, and disseminating specialized documents, especially of a scientific, technical, or legal nature, usually to facilitate research or preserve institutional memory.
  • Archive Management. refers to the office or organization responsible for appraising, selecting, preserving, and providing access to archival materials.
  • Information Technology in Information Institute. Information and communication technologies (ICT) facilitate the process of identification, collection, storing, processing and disseminating of information in libraries/information centers/information institute.

Peer Review Process

All submitted articles considered for publication undergo peer-review who are expert in the field. The review uses double blind peer review before the journal is published. Peer review assists editors in making editorial decisions and, through editorial communications with authors, may assist authors in improving their articles. Only qualified referees will be invited to review an article. Any article received for review is a confidential document and will be treated as such; it will not be shown to or discussed with others except if authorized by the Editor-in-Chief. Reviews would be conducted objectively and observations formulated clearly with supporting arguments so that authors can use them for improving the article. Reviewers will identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors and will also notify the editors of any substantial similarity or overlap between the article and any other article (published or unpublished).

 

Publication Frequency

Jurnal Kajian Informasi & Perpustakaan is published twice annually (June and December) by the journal editors from the Library Science Study Program, Faculty of Communication Science, Universitas Padjadjaran in cooperation with the Ikatan Sarjana Ilmu Perpustakaan dan Informasi Indonesia (ISIPII).

 

Open Access Policy

1. Introduction

Jurnal Kajian Informasi & Perpustakaan (JKIP) is firmly committed to the principle of Open Access for scholarly research. We believe that making research freely and widely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge, accelerates discovery, enhances education, and maximizes the societal and economic impact of research. This policy outlines JKIP's commitment to providing unrestricted access to the articles it publishes, in line with the mission of our publisher, the Library and Information Science Study Program, Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, to foster and disseminate knowledge.

2. Definition of Open Access

JKIP adheres to the principles of Open Access, meaning that all published articles are made permanently and freely available online immediately upon publication, without subscription charges or registration barriers for readers. Users are permitted to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles, crawl them for indexing, pass them as data to software, or use them for any other lawful, non-commercial purpose, as defined by the specific Creative Commons license applied, without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author.

3. Policy Details

  • Free and Immediate Access: All research articles, technical papers, conceptual papers, and case study reports published in JKIP are immediately available to access and download free of charge for all users worldwide upon publication. There is no embargo period.

  • Author Copyright and Licensing:

    • Authors who publish with JKIP retain the copyright of their work.
    • All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0) license. This license allows others to:
      • Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format.
      • Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material.
    • Under the following terms:
      • Attribution (BY): Users must give appropriate credit to the author(s) and JKIP as the original source of publication, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made.
      • ShareAlike (SA): If users remix, transform, or build upon the material, they must distribute their contributions under the same license as the original.
    • The specific licensing terms are clearly indicated on each published article.
  • Publication Fees (APCs):

    • JKIP is committed to maintaining high‑quality open‑access publishing. To support rigorous editorial processes, peer review, digital archiving, and long‑term journal sustainability, JKIP applies an Article Processing Charge (APC) to manuscripts accepted for publication, starting with submissions received in 2019. The APC amount and related information will be clearly displayed on the journal’s website.
    • All other costs of the journal—including online hosting, indexing services, DOI registration, and the procurement of tools such as Turnitin and Grammarly—are supported by financial funding from Universitas Padjadjaran.
  • User Rights and Permitted Reuse:

    • Under the CC BY-SA license, users are granted significant reuse rights as long as the terms of the license (attribution, non-commercial use, and share-alike) are respected. This promotes the broad dissemination and utilization of research findings.
  • Benefits of Open Access:

    • For Authors: Increased visibility, readership, and citation of their work; wider global impact; greater public engagement; and compliance with open access mandates from many funding agencies.
    • For the Research Community and Society: Accelerated pace of research and innovation; equitable access to knowledge regardless of geographic location or institutional affiliation; enhanced opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration; and greater return on public investment in research.
  • Compliance with Funder Mandates:

    • JKIP's Open Access model, author copyright retention, and CC BY-SA licensing are designed to be compatible with the open access policies of many research funding bodies and institutions worldwide. Authors are encouraged to check their specific funder requirements.

4. Statement of Principle

Jurnal Kajian Informasi & Perpustakaan (JKIP) believes that open and unrestricted access to scholarly research is crucial for the advancement of knowledge, innovation, and societal well-being. Our commitment to the Open Access model reflects our dedication to serving the global academic community and the public by ensuring that the valuable research we publish is accessible to the widest possible audience. We are proud to be an open-access journal that supports its authors and readers through a fee-free publication model, sustained by Universitas Andalas. JKIP's adherence to these principles is reflected in its DOAJ Seal status, indicating a high level of openness and commitment to best practices in scholarly publishing.

Screening for Plagiarism

Before submitting an article, the authors should check it by using a plagiarism checker application. All received articles which are published in the Jurnal Kajian Informasi & Perpustakaan have been through plagiarism checking process by using turnitin.com application. If an article is indicated as a plagiary, it will be rejected and will not be reviewed.

 

Reference Management

The authors recommended using the Reference Manager application, ex: Mendeley, Zotero, etc. The writing format that used in Jurnal Kajian Informasi & Perpustakaan follows the format applied by APA 6th Edition (American Psychological Association).

 

Journal Archiving

This journal utilizes the Indonesia One Search (IOS) and Indonesian Scientific Journal Database (ISJD) system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration.

 

AI Policy

Gen-AI and AI-Driven Tools Usage Policy

This policy has been implemented in response to the rise of generative AI and AI-based technologies, which are expected to be used more widely by academic writers and content creators. Generative AI refers to AI systems that can generate new content, such as text, graphics, or music, while AI-based technologies cover a wider range of applications that utilise AI to analyse data, automate processes, and support decision-making. This policy aims to provide transparency and guidance to authors, reviewers, and editors/copyeditors/proofreaders at the Jurnal Kajian Informasi & Perpustakaan, and the journal monitors these changes and adjusts its regulations as necessary.

For Authors:

Jurnal Kajian Informasi & Perpustakaan prohibits the use of Generative AI for writing manuscripts. Authors may use AI to assist with paraphrasing or proofreading, but our journal requires that the use of AI for these activities be no more than 20% when examined using Turnitin.

For Reviewer, Editor, Copy Editor, and Proofreader:

Manuscripts submitted to the Jurnal Kajian Informasi & Perpustakaan are confidential. Therefore, reviewers, editors, copyeditors, and proofreaders are strictly prohibited from uploading manuscripts to Gen-AI or AI-Driven Tools to assist in the review, editing, or proofreading process.

Jurnal Kajian Informasi & Perpustakaan supports the usage of technology that strengthens the integrity and efficiency of the editorial or peer-review process while complying with the principles of confidentiality and protecting the rights of all parties involved. This policy is subject to change in accordance with the rules governing the use of AI in academic environments.
