Aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak tulang ikan patin (Pangasius djambal) terhadap pertumbuhan bakteri Fusobacterium nucleatum: Studi eksperimental
Abstract

Antibacterial activity of catfish bone extract (pangasius djambal) against the growth of fusobacterium nucleatum: Study experimental
ABSTRACT
Introduction: Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory condition caused by bacterial biofilm. One of the bacteria involved is Fusobacterium nucleatum, which is recognized as a bridging organism. This bacterium plays a role in biofilm formation and disease progression and has shown resistance to certain antibiotics. Catfish bone (Pangasius djambal) has potential as a natural antibacterial agent. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of catfish bone extract against Fusobacterium nucleatum based on minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) values. Methods: This study was a true experimental laboratory study using the microdilution method. The study consisted of three groups: the treatment group with catfish bone extract at concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, 10%, 20%, and 40%; the positive control group using chlorhexidine (CHX) 0.2%; and the negative control group using PBS. Results: Catfish bone extract demonstrated antibacterial activity against Fusobacterium nucleatum. The MIC was 5%, as indicated by the absence of color change after MTT addition. However, no MBC was identified within the tested concentration range, as bacterial growth was still observed on the subculture medium. Conclusions: Catfish bone extract (Pangasius djambal) demonstrated inhibitory activity against the growth of Fusobacterium nucleatum, with a MIC of 5%, whereas no MBC was identified within the concentration range tested.
