Abstract

In the digital era, social movements have increasingly used Twitter as a medium to mobilize their ideas. This article identifies the online social movement on Twitter Hashtag #CabutPermenJHT56Tahun using Slavina and Brym's (2019) adaption to Castell's (2012) theory of social movement in the digital era. Given the lack of social network discussion of online social movement in previous studies (Coley, Cornfield, Isaac, & Dickerson, 2020; Walsh, 2012; Carty, 2006),  this article used Social Network Analysis (SNA) on mapping the influential actors in the online protest. Methodological novelty through digital approach is contributed to data collection and analysis using NVIVO and Gephi Software. Finally, this study identifies the mechanism of online social movement through Twitter Hashtag #CabutPermenJHT56Tahun through four indicators: aggrieved, available, digitally connected, and globally conscious. The social network of actors in the movement is also provided in this article.
