Author Guidelines

1. General Instructions:

  1. Umbara receives article that come from the results of field research, theoretical studies, and book reviews that are in accordance with the focus and scope of the journal.
  2. Editor prioritizes article that shows novelty in terms of issues, methodology, and analysis.
  3. Article written in Indonesian or English with a minimum number of words of 5000 and a maximum of 7500, excluding references and footnotes.
  4. Article must be accompanied by an abstract written up to 250 words. Abstract for article are written both in English and in Indonesian.
  5. The structure of the article should follow the article templates provided on this journal website here.
  6. Bibliography writing follows the APA style of writing. Author is encouraged to use the Mendeley software to simplify the citation technique.
  7. Footnotes should be included on every page, not at the end of the article.
  8. Authors should include the name of the institution and e-mail on the manuscript.
  9. Authors submit article by creating an account on the journal webpage and uploading the article soft file in Ms Word format. Authors are welcome to contact the editorial team via email jurnalumbara@gmail.com if you experience difficulties in the article upload process.
  10. The submitted articles will be selected by the editorial board and reviewed by two reviewers in a double-blind review system.
  11. Authors can browse the review process to publish their articles through their respective accounts.
  12. Authors will receive notification when articles are successfully submitted, and when they are accepted for publication.
  13. Each article submitted will go through the editorial review stage for two months after the article is received.
  14. Articles that have been completed through the editorial review stage will be reviewed by two reviewers for two months at the latest.
  15. The final decision regarding acceptance of the article will be made by the editor according to the comments of the reviewers. The publishing of received articles including the order of publication is the editor's authority according to the order of the date received and thematic publications.
2. Guidelines for the Manuscript:
  1. The title of the manuscript should be informative and be written both briefly and clearly. It cannot diverse multi interpretations. It has to be pinpoint with the issues that will be discussed. The beginning word is written in a capital case and symmetrically. The article title does not contain any uncommon abbreviations. The article title should be written within twelve words in English or fifteen words in Bahasa Indonesia, 14pt-sized font, with the bold selection and in the center text format.
  2. The author's name and affiliation should be written with the center text alignment under the title of the article. The author should give two line spaces between the title and the author’s name. Then, the space between the author’s affiliation address and the abstract title is one space.
  3. Abstract and keyword should be written in English and Bahasa Indonesia. The abstract should inform the reader the background, purpose, methods, finding, and the conclusion. Abstract should be written maximum 250 words, in Times New Roman 11. The keywords must be written below the abstract, consist of maximum 5 keywords, in Times New Roman 10.
  4. Introduction should describe the background of article with simple and explicit description. The description should explain important contribution of the study and should fully equipped with article purpose.
  5. Literature review should be written in separate section. The main purpose of the literature review to discuss the main idea of past research, and then make a difference issue with those articles.
  6. Method should explain how the research is conducted including type of research / research design, technique to choose the sample of research, to collect, and to analyze the data.
  7. Result and Discussion should explain the main findings of the research and the argument based on the findings. The results obtained from the research have to be supported by sufficient data.  The research results and the discovery must be the answers or the research hypothesis or research question stated previously in the introduction part. Tables and figures must have titles and have clear numbers and sources, and be typed in single space.
  8. Conclusion contains the author's interpretation from result and discussion to advised and mention recommendation or suggestion. The conclusion describes the answers to the hypothesis or research question, the research purposes, and the research discoveries. The conclusion should not contain only the repetition of the results and discussions. It should be the summary of the research results as the author expects in the research purposes or the hypothesis.
  9. Acknowledgment (if any) is mainly directed at research funders or donors and those who assist with the implementation of research whose contribution is not significant enough to be included in the authorship group.
  10. References must contain all references cited in the article. Bibliography must contain reference libraries originating from primary sources (scientific journals; minimum 80%) of the total bibliography) published in the last 10 (ten) years. The references must be written following the APA Style in Times New Roman 11. Referencing technique using Mendeley is highly recommended.

4. Guidelines for Submitting Manuscripts Online:

The manuscript text must be submitted by one of two systems: email or Open Journal System (the second procedure is more preferable):

  1. The document should be submitted by Online Submission System in the Umbara: Indonesian Journal of Anthropology portal HERE.
  2. Firstly, the author should register as either an author or reviewer (checking role as author or reviewer) in the “Register”
  3. After the registration step is completed, log in as an author, click in “New Submission”. The article submission stage consists of five stages, such as:  (1). Start, (2). Upload Submission, (3). Enter Metadata, (4). Upload Supplementary Files, (5). Confirmation.
  4. In the “Start” column, chose the Journal Section (Full Article), check all the checklists.
  5. In the “Upload Submission” Column, upload the manuscript files in MSWord format in this column.
  6. In the “Enter Metadata” columns, fill in with all the author data and affiliation. Including the Journal Title, Abstract and Indexing Keywords.
  7. In the “Upload Supplementary Files” columns, the author is allowed to upload supplementary files, the statement letter, or any other else.
  8. In the “Confirmation” columns, if the data you entered are all correct already, then click “Finish Submission”.
  9. If the author has difficulties in the submission process through the online system, please contact Umbara editorial team at jurnalumbara@gmail.com

 

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, or is under consideration for another journal. Authors should attach or send the author's statement letter that can be downloaded here to the editorial team.
  2. The script files are written in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file formats.
  3. The script should be written in this format : 1 space text; not underlined; and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed in the text at their proper point, not at the end of the script.
  4. Text that meets style requirements is outlined in the journal template, which can be found on the left-menu.
 

Copyright Notice

The author who wishes to publish articles in this journal agree with the following conditions:

  1. The author retains the copyright and simultaneously provides the journal the first publishing rights of the manuscript under a Creative Commons Attribution License that allows others to share the work with an initial job writing and publishing statement in this journal. 
  2. The author can include in separate additional contractual arrangements for the rich version of non-exclusive distribution of journal publications (eg posting it to the institutional repository or publishing it in a book), with recognition of publishing initially in this journal.
  3. The author is permitted and encouraged to post their work online (for example: in the institutional repository or on their website) before and during the submission process because it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and more powerful citations of published works.   4. Department of Anthropology, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Padjadjaran Bandung holds the right to reproduce and distribute the article and author is not allowed to publish the same article published in this journal.
