Kondisi periodontal penderita diabetes mellitus tipe I
Periodontal condition of type I diabetes mellitus patients
Abstract
Pendahuluan: Diabetes mellitus merupakan suatu penyakit gangguan metabolisme karbohidrat, lemak, dan protein yang ditandai dengan hiperglikemia akibat gangguan pada pankreas untuk menghasilkan insulin, terganggunya aktivitas insulin pada tubuh, atau keduanya. Diabetes mellitus berhubungan dengan penyakit periodontal dan berperan sebagai faktor risiko dari gingivitis dan periodontitis. Risiko terjadinya gingivitis dan periodontitis meningkat pada penderita Diabetes mellitus yang tidak terkontrol. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui kondisi periodontal penderita Diabetes mellitus tipe I di beberapa rumah sakit di Kota Bandung. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada 12 penderita Diabetes mellitus tipe I yang berusia antara 21-48 tahun menggunakan indeks CPITN. Metode: Jenis penelitian deskriptif dengan metode survei dilakukan di tiga rumah sakit, yaitu RSUP Dr. Hasan Sadikin, RSUD Ujung Berung, dan RS Al Islam Bandung. Hasil: 50% penderita Diabetes mellitus tipe I menderita gingivitis dan 50% lainnya menderita periodontitis. Simpulan: Penderita Diabetes mellitus tipe I pada penelitian ini seluruhnya menderita penyakit gingivitis dan periodontitis.

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a disease of metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins characterized by hyperglycemia due to disturbances in the pancreas to produce insulin, disruption of insulin activity in the body, or both. Diabetes mellitus is associated with periodontal disease and acts as a risk factor for gingivitis and periodontitis. The risk of gingivitis and periodontitis increases in patients with uncontrolled diabetes mellitus. The aim of the study was to determine the periodontal condition of type I diabetes mellitus patients in several hospitals in Bandung City. Methods: This study was conducted on 12 patients with type I diabetes mellitus aged between 21-48 years using the CPITN index. The type of descriptive research with survey method was carried out in three hospitals, namely Dr. Hasan Sadikin Hospital, Ujung Berung Hospital, and Al Islam Hospital Bandung. Result: 50% of patients with type I diabetes mellitus suffer from gingivitis and 50% suffer from periodontitis. Conclusion: Patients with type I diabetes mellitus in this study all suffered from gingivitis and periodontitis.
