Effectiveness Analysis on Vacuum Distillation Methods to Increase Patchouli Oil Purity using Gap Analysis Approach

Abstrak


The selling price of patchouli oil,especially that produced by farmers, still has a low selling price due to its quality. This research aims to continue the research of PT. Sinkona Indonesia Lestari in increasing the levels of Patchouli Alcohol in Patchouli Oil on a laboratory scale using a Rotary Evaporator and analyzed using the GC-MS laboratory of PT. Sinkona Indonesia Lestari which will later be projected into pilot scale vacuum distillation to replace the column fractionation method. The study was conducted with one treatment where the treatment was made with three repetitions. Laboratory scale experimental results are converted and assumed to be pilot scale or industrial scale with vacuum distillation. The vacuum distillation method is compared to the industrial-scale column fractionation purification method using the gap analysis. Results The main compounds of patchouli oil analyzed using GC-MS consisted of B-Patchoulene, Caryophyllene, a-Guaiene, a-Patchoulene, a-Bulnesene, Pogostole, Patchouli Alcohol. The highest patchouli alcohol content of patchouli oil in the product fraction was in experiment 2 with a value of 32.2689. Viewed from various aspects, the vacuum distillation method can be an alternative method of refining patchouli that is more effective and efficient and meets the specifications of SNI quality standards.
